Welcome to The Chronicle of Arda. This section of the site provides automated annals
for all four Ages of the Sun and Moon. For any period of Arda's history, the
Chronicle will display the events that happened in that time. Events and characters are entered into the
Chronicle as they are added to the main database: like the rest of The Encyclopedia of Arda this section of
the site is expanding all the time.
You can have the Chronicle look up events for specific dates by entering one or two years in the form below.
If you enter two dates, the Chronicle will display events that happened between those two years.
If you leave one of the dates blank, the Chronicle will display events in the century around the single year you specify.
For years after III 1601 (the year of the foundation of Shire, and therefore Shire Year 1), the Chronicle will also show years by the Shire-reckoning in a second column.

| 459 | | Húrin and Huor return out of Gondolin to Dor-lómin. |
| 460 | | Autumn Gorlim betrays Barahir and his outlaw band. They are destroyed, leaving Beren as the sole survivor. |
| 462 | | Morgoth attempts an invasion of Hithlum, but is repulsed. Galdor son of Hador is slain defending Barad Eithel. |
| 464 | | Spring Marriage of Húrin and Morwen; Túrin is born later in the year. |
| | | Winter Beren abandons Dorthonion and travels to Doriath, where he first comes upon Lúthien. |

| | | Beren sets out from Doriath on the Quest for the Silmaril. |
| | | Finrod and Beren are imprisoned in Tol-in-Gaurhoth. Finrod is slain by a werewolf, but Beren is rescued by Lúthien. |

| 471 | | Probable year of the death of Halmir. He is succeeded as Lord of Brethil by his son Haldir. |
| 472 | | Túrin is sent to be fostered in Doriath. |
| | | Marriage of Huor and Rían; Tuor is born later in the year, but Rían dies on the Haudh-en-Nirnaeth soon after. |

| 481 | | Túrin becomes a marchwarden of Doriath. |
| 484 | | Túrin causes the death of Saeros, and exiles himself from Doriath. |
| 487 | | Túrin slays Forweg and becomes captain of the Gaurwaith; he and his companions encounter Mîm, and settle in Amon Rûdh. |
| 488 | | Tuor is captured and enslaved by Lorgan. |
| | | Annael and his people set out from Mithrim seeking refuge at the Mouths of Sirion. |
| 489 | | Escape of Gwindor from Angband; he later meets Beleg in Taur-nu-Fuin. |
| | | The Gaurwaith of Bar-en-Danwedh are assaulted by Orcs. Túrin is captured by Orcs and carried off. He is rescued by Beleg and Gwindor, but mistakenly slays Beleg. |
| 490 | | Túrin is healed at Eithel Ivrin, and Gwindor leads him to Nargothrond. |

| 496 | | Morwen and Niënor ride with Mablung to Nargothrond, where Niënor falls under the Dragon-spell of Glaurung. She later comes to Brethil and is healed by Brandir. |

| 498 | | Brethil is assaulted by Orcs, and Túrin reluctantly takes up his black sword Gurthang to combat them, unwittingly revealing himself to Morgoth. |

| 509 | | Maeglin is captured by agents of Morgoth, and betrays the location of Gondolin. |

| 538 | | The Sons of Fëanor attack the refuge at the Mouths of Sirion. Elwing escapes in the form of a bird, bringing a Silmaril to Eärendil at sea, and together they sail for the West. |
| 540 | | The survivors of the destruction of the Havens of Sirion take refuge on the Isle of Balar. |
| 542 | | Eärendil lands on the shores of Aman, and appeals to the Valar on behalf of Elves and Men. |
| 545 | | The landing of the host of the Valar in Beleriand. The War of Wrath begins. |
