BroddaUnfinished Tales Part One II
Narn i Hîn Húrin
In the great battle of the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Edain who dwelt in the northern land of Dor-lómin were utterly defeated by Morgoth. The Easterlings had been allies of the Dark Lord, and after the battle he rewarded them with the lands the Edain had formerly occupied. Among these was Dor-lómin, whose former Lord, Húrin, had been taken captive to Angband, and which was afterward ruled by a cruel Easterling named Brodda.
Among the original Men of Dor-lómin, these cruel Incomers became known as the Wolf-folk, invaders who preyed upon the surviving Edain, and even took some into slavery. Túrin son of Húrin, who would have been heir to the Lordship, was just eight years old when the Wolf-folk invaded his homeland, and he was sent away to Doriath to save him from the Easterlings. In Doriath, Túrin became a warrior, and he returned to Dor-lómin many years later to find it still in the thrall of the Wolf-folk. There he slew Brodda and the other Easterlings in his hall before fleeing his lost homeland forever.
It is perhaps slightly confusing that Túrin's story includes both these Easterling Wolf-folk, and also the Wolf-men or Gaurwaith. The latter were outlaws, a band of which Túrin had joined before his journey to confront Brodda. Other than the similar names, there was no direct connection between the two (and indeed at least one of the Wolf-men had found himself outlawed after escaping from the incoming Wolf-folk).
