About this entry:
A general term for the Men of Númenor or their descendants, and used especially in Third Age Middle-earth to refer to the Dúnedain.
1
These dates, and the timeline for this entry, refer to the period during which Westernesse existed; after the Downfall of II 3319, Westernesse (that is, Númenor) was consumed by the Great Sea. Nonetheless, the term 'Men of Westernesse' continued in use for the Dúnedain, the descendants of the Númenóreans who survived in Middle-earth. In this later sense the term was used indirectly, meaning 'Men whose ancestors were of Westernesse', as Westernesse itself had ceased to exist.
