Hador

In the Grey Annals (in volume XI of The History of Middle-earth), Hador's date of birth is given as I 390 rather than I 389. However, we know that Hador died in I 455 (the year of the Dagor Bragollach), and the Silmarillion describes his death like this: 'Before the walls of Eithel Sirion fell Hador the Golden-haired, defending the rearguard of his lord Fingolfin, being then sixty and six years of age...' (Quenta Silmarillion 18, Of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin). For Hador to be sixty-six in I 455, he can't possibly have been born in I 390. Since the Grey Annals story is inconsistent with the published Silmarillion in various other ways (it has Hador being born in Eriador, for instance) his birth date has been adjusted here to match his established age at death.

A pronunciation something like 'haydor' is perhaps more natural and common, but the harder 'hahdor' shown here follows the rules of Elvish pronunciation more precisely. It may be relevant that older texts show the name accented, as 'Hádor', though the significance of this accent (or of its removal) is not entirely clear.

In Elvish, the word hador means 'one who throws', referring to a warrior who fights with throwing weapons such as spears or darts. So, while the name Hador is translated simply as 'warrior', it was in fact a little more specific than that direct translation would suggest.
