Fosco Baggins

One of Frodo Baggins’ grandfathers

The only son of Largo Baggins. He married Ruby Bolger, and together they had three children: Dora, Drogo and Dudo. Drogo was in turn the father of Frodo Baggins, making Fosco the paternal grandfather of the Ring-bearer (Frodo's other grandfather was Gorbadoc Brandybuck of Brandy Hall).

Notes

1

It is far from certain that Tolkien meant for Fosco to carry any meaning at all. Like the name of his father Largo, Fosco's name is interpretable as having its origins in Italian, meaning 'dark' or 'gloomy', though we have no way of knowing whether this connection was intentional.
