Bane of GlaurungDagnir Glaurunga, a title of TúrinA title given to Túrin Turambar, commemorating his feat in slaying Glaurung as that Dragon invaded Túrin's adopted home in the Forest of Brethil. Túrin took his own life shortly after defeating the Dragon, and the title 'Bane of Glaurung' is a translation of Elvish Dagnir Glaurunga, words that were carved on his tombstone above the Ravines of Teiglin where Glaurung's defeat was achieved. Túrin's tombstone also became a memorial of his family; his sister Niënor had cast herself into the river, but her name was carved on the stone beneath the title 'Bane of Glaurung'. His mother Morwen would later die in the same place; she was buried beside her son, and her name was also added to the stone. This so-called Stone of the Hapless, marking Túrin's role as the Bane of Glaurung, was said to have been one of the few features to survive the inundation at the end of the First Age, remaining above the waves even after Beleriand was drowned.
