A descendant of the royal line of Númenor, Axantur was the grandson of Vardamir Nólimon, who in turn was the heir of Elros, Númenor's founding King. Axantur was descended through Vardamir's youngest son, Nolondil, and so belonged to only a minor branch of Númenórean royalty. However, he was to become the ancestor of Hallacar, who wedded Queen Tar-Ancalimë, and so from the time of Tar-Ancalimë's heir Tar-Anárion, the blood of Axantur re-entered the royal line of Númenor.
Notes
1 |
We only have a date of birth for Axantur, but the Men of his generation of the House of Elros could expect to live for about four centuries. He therefore probably lived on into the reign of King Tar-Meneldur, surviving until (very approximately) the year II 795.

Axantur's name is not specifically explained, but it seems to combine axan ('law' or 'rule') with tur ('lord'). Lacking biographical details of Axantur's life, it's hard to definitively interpret this combination of elements, but they seem to hint that he was an important judge, or held some kind of analogous role.
