Oromendil was a nobleman of Númenor's early history, and a descendant of the first King of Númenor, Elros Tar-Minyatur. Oromendil's father was Nolondil, the fourth and youngest child of Elros' son Vardamir, and so Oromendil was one of Elros' great-grandchildren. Oromendil had two siblings, an elder sister named Yávien and a younger brother named Axantur.
The highborn of Númenor were extremely long-lived, especially during the early centuries of that realm's existence. So, though Oromendil was born in the year II 382, nearly four centuries into Númenor's existence, his great-grandfather Tar-Minyatur the first King was still on the throne at that time. While we have no record of Oromendil's lifespan, he likely lived long enough to see his grandfather Vardamir refuse the Sceptre after Elros' death. Assuming that Oromendil lived for some four centuries (which was not unusual for one of his generation) he would also have seen the reign of his uncle, King Tar-Amandil, and then Tar-Elendil, and possibly even the early rule of Tar-Meneldur the fifth King.
Our only reference to Oromendil is in a genealogy of the early royal house of Númenor. No wife or children are recorded on that chart, but its abridged nature means that we cannot be sure whether or not Oromendil had any descendants. His known legacy was therefore rather limited, but he was the great-uncle (through his brother Axantur) of Hallatan of Hyarastorni, whose son Hallacar would wed Queen Tar-Ancalimë, long after Oromendil's own time.

We have only a date of birth for Oromendil, but members of his house in this generation could expect to live for up to four centuries, so he likely survived until about the year II 780.
