Tauremorna

The Forest of Fangorn

Map of Tauremorna
Tauremorna or Fangorn Forest (somewhat conjectural)
Tauremorna or Fangorn Forest (somewhat conjectural)

A name given by Treebeard to his home, the dense and ancient Forest of Fangorn. The name comes from the Elvish for 'black forest', a reference to the deep darkness that lay beneath the trees, and Tauremorna is related to another word for the forest used by Treebeard, Aldalómë, which means 'tree-twilight'. These two names also appeared in a form that combined both their meanings, a longer version of Tauremorna, which was Tauremornalómë. That fuller term represented a string of Elvish words together meaning 'black forest under twilight'.
