A translation of the Elvish word Engwar, one of many names given by the Elves to the race of Men. The Elves did not suffer disease, illness, or old age (which to them appeared as a strange form of sickness itself). From an Elf's perspective, these characteristics were unique to the race of Men, and so they chose them as a basis for the name Engwar, 'sickly, subject to disease' to describe that race.
