Rochand

'Land of Horses', an Elvish name for that region that later became known as Rohan, and the origin of that word.

At least, Edoras became established as the chief city early in the history of the land, but our lack of precise dating does raise a question on this point. For some years after Eorl and his people settled the old province of Calenardhon, the King's house had been at Aldburg in the Folde, only moving to Edoras some decades later. It is therefore at least plausible that the early form Rochand had already fallen out of use even before Edoras became the chief city of the realm.
