(Aragorn was a descendant of Elrond's brother
Elros through many generations of Men)
A title of Elrond son of Eärendil, a descendant of King Thingol of Doriath and one of the noblest Elves who remained in Middle-earth after the close of the First Age. He dwelt for many centuries in Lindon with High King Gil-galad, but in II 1697 he went east and founded a refuge and stronghold in a hidden valley of the Misty Mountains. That refuge was named 'Rivendell' from the deeply cut valley in which it stood, and Elrond was its lord from that time onward.
At the time of the War of the Last Alliance, Rivendell was the scene of the great mustering of the Alliance's forces before they set out to Mordor, and Elrond went to war as the herald of Gil-galad. Surviving the Battle of Dagorlad and Siege of Barad-dûr, Elrond returned northward to Rivendell as the Third Age began. He was Lord of Rivendell while that Age lasted, through more than three thousand years. As the Third Age turned to the Fourth, it was revealed that Elrond had in part protected his stronghold through the power of Vilya, one of the Three Rings of the Elves. At that time, alongside the other Keepers of the Three Rings, he went aboard the White Ship and sailed into the West.
