The city of Minas Tirith (or, in its original form, Minas Anor) had stood since the late Second Age and survived into the Fourth Age. It is perhaps doubtful, however, that there was a Lampwrights' Street on its first level throughout this long period of more than three thousand years. It is noteworthy that the city was rebuilt by King Ostoher in the year III 420, so (unless it had been preserved from the earlier period) the street probably did not date back further than the fifth century of the Third Age.
