Kingdom of Earth

Arda as the realm of Manwë

To the Valar and those who followed them, the world was seen as the realm of the Elder King Manwë, a Little Kingdom among the numberless stars. Surrounded by the Outer Sea and the Walls of Night, the world was ruled by the chief of the Valar in the name of Ilúvatar who dwelt beyond its boundaries. Indeed, the Elvish word for the world, Arda, reflects this. It literally meant 'realm', describing the Kingdom of Earth under Manwë's rule within the depths of , the outer universe.
