The title of Ingwë of the Vanyar, who dwelt on Taniquentil beneath Manwë's halls, and was considered the most noble of the Elves.
Notes
1 |
We're specifically told in chapter 6 of the Quenta Silmarillion that Ingwë '...was ever held the High King of all the Elves.' The word 'ever' there might be taken as meaning that he had been High King from the first appearance of the Elves in the world. That's a possible reading, but in context, it seems rather to mean that he was High King 'ever after' - that is, following the establishment of certain Kings among the Elves of Valinor. |
