Gilraen

The mother of Aragorn

The wife of Arathorn II, and mother of Aragorn II Elessar. When Aragorn was only two years old, Arathorn was slain by orcs, and to protect her son Gilraen took him to Rivendell and gave him into the care of Elrond.

Notes

1

A 'tressure' is a jewelled headpiece, commonly worn by Elf-maidens and noble ladies of the Dúnedain. The name Gilraen applies more specifically to a tressure set with an array of sparkling gems (the element gil, more typically used for 'star', here has the more general meaning of 'a thing that sparkles or twinkles').
