First Deep

A level of Khazad-dûm

The underground floors of the Dwarf-city of Khazad-dûm were counted downwards from the level of the East-gate of the city. The first floor below this level was called the First Deep, and was known to hold the vast Second Hall. The Second Hall was connected to the First Hall, which lay behind the gate, by a broad staircase that led up from the First Deep.
