Nephew of Thorin II Oakenshield, who accompanied him on the Quest of Erebor, and was slain at his side in the Battle of Five Armies.

Fíli is a 'real' Dwarf-name from the Völuspá. Interpretations differ: some sources suggest that the name means 'trunk-like', while others derive it from the Old Norse for 'file' (as in the tool).
