A name, meaning 'evening twilight', used to refer to the lands around Annúminas in western Arnor, and especially to the Hills and Lake of that region.
Notes
1 |
Disregarding the word's meaning, it would perhaps be natural to pronounce 'Evendim' with a short initial 'e'. However, the name originates from even dim, when 'even' is short for 'evening', so a case could certainly be made that the first element should be pronounced like the English word 'even', with a long 'e'.

Translated forms of the name use Elvish Uial, but this is not an exact literal translation. Where evendim relates specifically to the twilight of evening, uial is a general Elvish term for twilight, applying equally to the twilight of the morning and of the evening. A more exact Elvish equivalent of Evendim would be Aduial, 'second twilight', referring more specifically to the twilight of evening.
