Éothéod
The roots of the Rohirrim
A nation of Northmen brought by their chieftain Frumgar to the northern reaches of the River Anduin. The Men of the Éothéod were the ancestors of the Rohirrim; in the time of Eorl the Young, they rode south to the aid of Gondor, and were granted the wide green land of Calenardhon (later known as Rohan) as a reward.

Dating the Éothéod is complicated by the fact that they emerged as a people first, and only later founded the land known by the same name. The event that triggered the migration of the Northmen from Rhovanion (and thus the emergence of the Éothéod as a distinct people) was their defeat in battle beside Narmacil II of Gondor by the Wainriders in III 1856, after which their leader Marhwini led them to new dwellings in the Vales of Anduin.
For the establishment of the northern land also known as the Éothéod, we have much more solid dating evidence. After more than a century in the lands between the Carrock and the Gladden Fields, a Lord named Frumgar led his people into the far northern lands around the sources of Anduin. This was the origin of the Éothéod as a realm, and is dated as taking place in the year III 1977.
