Elfsheen

A surname of Morwen

A name given to Morwen, the daughter of Baragund, who wedded Húrin and became the mother of Túrin and Niënor. 'Elfsheen' is a loose translation of her Elvish surname, Eledhwen. The 'sheen' of her title is a reference to the glint in Morwen's eyes that was said to mirror the light seen in the eyes of the Elves.

Notes

1

The date of Morwen's birth appears on a genealogical chart in volume XI of The History of Middle-earth. It is not therefore strictly canonical, but the date of I 443 fits well with other established events.

2

Morwen's surname Eledhwen literally means 'Elf-maiden', though she was not in fact an Elf. The '-sheen' element of the translated form 'Elfsheen' was said to refer to the Elf-like glint in Morwen's eyes.
