East Vale

Talath Rhúnen

The old name among the Sindar of Beleriand for the upper vale of Gelion, between the river and the Blue Mountains, above the inflow of Ascar. This wide land was known in Elvish as Talath Rhúnen, translated 'East Vale', and also called Thargelion, the land beyond Gelion. After the Return of the Noldor, Caranthir son of Fëanor settled in the mountainous north of the East Vale, and after that time the land was more normally called Dor Caranthir, 'Land of Caranthir'. The vale was overrun and ravaged by Orcs during the Dagor Bragollach.
