Durin I the Deathless Durin III Durin VI Náin I Thráin I Thorin I Glóin Óin Náin II Dáin I Thrór Thráin II Thorin II Oakenshield Dáin II Ironfoot Thorin III Durin VII
King of Durin's Folk , son and heir of Náin II , and ancestor of both Thorin II Oakenshield and Dáin II Ironfoot . During the time of his rule, Dragons multiplied in the northern lands and attacked the Dwarves . Dáin himself was slain by one of these, and was succeeded as King of Durin's Folk by his eldest son Thrór .
Notes
1
In common with most of Tolkien's Dwarf -names, Däin derives from Old Norse mythology. The name literally means 'dead', but in the form Dáinn it was the name of a deity associated with Dwarves (and perhaps a Dwarf himself).
