Eärnil I was the second of the Ship-kings of Gondor, famous for capturing the southern haven of Umbar. When he was lost at sea, he was succeeded by his son Ciryandil, who continued his father's naval policies. Ciryandil reigned over Gondor for seventy-nine years, and died in the defence of Umbar against the Haradrim. He was succeeded by his son Ciryaher, who went on to avenge his father and conquer the southern lands, and so ruled in the name of Hyarmendacil I.
