A Gondorian noble descended from the Royal House, Calimmacil was the son of Arciryas, who was in turn the younger brother of King Narmacil II, making Calimmacil the grandson of Telumehtar the conqueror of Umbar. Years after his own death, Calmmacil's line became important to history when Narmacil's grandson Ondoher was lost in battle, along with both his heirs. At that time Calimmacil's own grandson, the great general Eärnil, was selected as the new King.
Notes
1 |
We have no recorded dates for Calimmacil's life, but we do know that King Calimehtar, who shared a grandfather with Calimmacil and hence belonged to exactly the same generation, lived between the years III 1736 and III 1936. |

The -macil element of Calimmacil's name definitely means 'sword', but his prefix is uncertain. His full name probably means something like 'shining sword', but the root cal- (in the sense of brilliance or splendour) is also sometimes associated with heroism in general. On that basis the name Calimmacil might be intended to mean simply 'sword hero'. |
