Valanya

A day dedicated to the Valar

Days of the week

The last of the six days that made up the Elvish week, dedicated to the Valar or Powers. Valanya was the Quenya form of the day's name, but it had many other names among the Elves. Also Quenya was Tárion (meaning approximately 'day of the High Ones'), and in Sindarin the equivalent names were Orbelain or Rodyn. Among the Hobbits and certain Men, the day ultimately became Highday, and was marked by feasting and celebrations. Though we have no specific records of similar Elvish customs, it seems reasonable to guess that they also held the day of the Valar in special esteem.
