A name used by the Rohirrim for their own people, the descendants of Eorl and his followers who rode to the aid of Gondor five centuries before the War of the Ring, and were granted the land of Rohan as their reward. The phrase 'Sons of Eorl' is close in meaning to the word Eorlingas from the Riders' own language, and it may be meant as an English translation of that term.
