Shagrat

Commander of the Tower of Cirith Ungol

The Uruk commanding the Tower of Cirith Ungol in Ephel Dúath, who captured Frodo Baggins during the War of the Ring.

Notes

1

After Orcs under the commands of Shagrat and Gorbag came close to destroying one another in Shagrat's Tower, Shagrat himself escaped with Bilbo's Mithril-shirt and other tokens he had taken from Frodo. He succeeded in crossing Gorgoroth and bringing his tokens to the Dark Lord, in sufficient time that the Mouth of Sauron was able to produce them at the Morannon eleven days later.

It was on that day, 25 March, that the Ring was cast into the Fire, and Barad-dûr was destroyed. Shagrat had arrived there only a few days earlier, and was most likely caught in its destruction, though it should be noted that his fate is not known with certainty.
