Shadow Host

The army of the King of the Dead

A name for the dread army that Aragorn summoned out from the Paths of the Dead to the Stone of Erech. There he granted them the chance to fulfil their failed oath to his ancestor Isildur, and they agreed to follow him into battle. Though the Shadow Host fought in alliance with the Free Peoples, they lost none of their horror, and as they passed through the fiefs of southern Gondor, most of those people that remained fled in terror. At the port of Pelargir, they helped to capture a Corsair fleet that was preparing an attack on Minas Tirith. In return, Aragorn released them, and they truly faded into the shadows at last.
