Rollo Boffin

An uncle of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins

Third of the four children of Otto Boffin and Lavender Grubb, Rollo grew up to marry Druda Burrows. Though we have no details of their children, it is known that Rollo and Druda did have several descendants. Through his younger sister Primrose, Rollo was one of the uncles of Lobelia Sackville-Baggins.

Notes

1

At least, historically the name 'Rollo' derived from Old Norse Hrólfr, which in turn derived from elements meaning 'fame' and 'wolf'. Tolkien's selection of this name was perhaps influenced by a famous historical Rollo, the first Duke of Normandy and a direct ancestor of William the Conqueror. This seems all the more likely since this Duke Rollo was chronicled by a historian named 'Dudo', another name used by Tolkien for one of his Hobbits (albeit as a member of the Baggins family rather than the Boffins).
