When Morgoth held captive Húrin within Angband, Húrin resisted his captor, stating that Men could still hope to escape Morgoth beyond the Circles of the World (that is, that the unique Gift of Men - death - would allow them to pass out of the reach of his power). Morgoth retorted that beyond the world there was Nothing, and therefore no hope remained to Mortals.
These words were lies, as Morgoth himself had descended into Arda from beyond the Circles of the World at its beginning, but they proved strangely prophetic of his own fate. After the War of Wrath and the destruction of Angband, Morgoth himself was captured by the Valar and thrust out of the world into the Void beyond.
