NahaldDéagol’s true nameA name from the actual old Mannish tongues of northern Middle-earth, with the meaning 'Secret' or 'Concealed'. This was the true name of the short-lived first finder of the Ring in the Anduin. In common with other terms from this original language, Tolkien translated the name into Old English, and thus this creature of Hobbit-kind is more commonly known by the Anglo-Saxon version of his name, which is Déagol.
