Marmadas Brandybuck

A distant relation of Meriadoc Brandybuck

One of the many members of the extended Brandybuck family, Marmadas Brandybuck was a descendant of the Masters of Buckland, but through a minor line. His grandfather Orgulas had been the youngest son of Master Marmadoc the Masterful,1 making him a distant relative of Meriadoc Brandybuck and Frodo Baggins, both of whom could also trace their ancestry back to Marmadoc.

Marmadas Brandybuck was born in the year III 2943 (or 1343 by the Shire-reckoning) which was the year after Bilbo Baggins' unexpected return from his adventures in the Wild. Long afteward, Marmadas was present at Bilbo's famous Birthday Party, when he would have been fifty-eight years old. With him at that Party were his three children, Merimas, Mentha and Melilot.

Notes

1

Because of his descent from the Masters of Buckland, it is plausible that Marmadas and his family lived in Brandy Hall. That great network of Hobbit-holes within Buck Hill was home to many generations of the Brandybuck family, though whether it had room to include relations as distant as Marmadas is difficult to say.
