An approximate translation of the name Noldor, referring to one of the three main branches of the Eldar. The Noldor were the followers of Finwë; as a people they had an abiding fascination with the making of things and the gaining of knowledge. From this they gained their name Noldor, derived from an Elvish root meaning 'knowledge', which is variously translated as 'Deep Elves' or 'Loremasters'.
