There are various competing histories of the river name 'Limlight', and one of these gives the original Sindarin name as Limlich, meaning 'swift-light'. When the Rohirrim settled in Calenardhon, this river formed their new northern border, and they gave it a name in their own language, adopting the sounds of the original name to form Limliht. This is the name rendered into English to give the river its better known name, the 'Limlight'.
