![]() Near the Three-Farthing Stone, a road branched off the main East Road of the Shire, and ran northwestwards through Bywater and Hobbiton, and on towards Little Delving. This was the Bywater Road, also known - at least for the part of its length between Bywater and Hobbiton - as the Hobbiton Road. The road was normally lined with trees, but during Sharkey's occupation of the Shire, the trees were felled, and ugly new houses were raised along the roadside. Notes
