The possible location of Greenfields (conjectural)1
A part of the Shire, known to lie in the Northfarthing, on the western banks of the River Brandywine. Its own western border was marked by a river known as the Norbourn (apparently a tributary of the Brandywine, but not mentioned elsewhere or shown on any map). This region is famous as the site of the Battle of Greenfields, fought in III 2747 (or 1147 by the Shire-reckoning), in which an invading force of Orcs led by Golfimbul was defeated by Bandobras 'Bullroarer' Took.

All we know for sure about the location of Greenfields was that it was in the Northfarthing on the banks of the Brandywine, and lay between that river and the Norbourn. The map shown above follows that description as far as possible, but the course of the Norbourn is entirely unknown, and therefore so is the precise location of Greenfields. |
