A very ancient willow tree, more commonly called 'Old Man Willow', that stood on the banks of the river Withywindle within the Old Forest. The willow was a powerful tree with a strong connection to the earth and the wind, but as the long years passed his heart became corrupt, and his corruption spread through the trees of the Old Forest. The Forest was visited by the Travellers as they set out from the Shire, and thus the Great Willow came close to ending the Quest of Mount Doom before it had even begun, had the Hobbits not been rescued by Tom Bombadil.
