According to tradition, Gilmith was the daughter of Imrazôr the Númenórean and the Elf-maiden Mithrellas. Mithrellas was part of the retinue of Nimrodel, who became lost as she journeyed out of the White Mountains and was rescued by Imrazôr, a Gondorian of Belfalas. Their son Galador became famous as the founding Prince of Dol Amroth, but Galador also had a younger sister, Gilmith, whose name apparently means 'star mist'.
Notes
1 |
We have no definite dates for Gilmith, but we do know that her elder brother Galador was born in the year III 2004. Gilmith must therefore have been born relatively soon after that date. Galador was recorded as living until the age of one hundred and twenty-five, and presumably Gilmith's lifespan was comparable.

Gilmith's brother Galador was the first Prince of Dol Amroth, so it seems likely that Gilmith herself would have dwelt at Dol Amroth for at least part of her life.

It is perhaps notable that Gilmith shares the element -mith ('mist' or possibly 'grey') with her mother, whose name was Mithrellas. This suggests that at least Gilmith's name was intended to reflect that of her mother. Indeed, there might potentially be an even more direct connection, with the name intended to mean, at least in part, that Gilmith was the 'star of Mithrellas'.
