The major divisions of the Eldar, the Elves of the High Kindred. Those branches shown in bold text represent Elves who completed the Great Journey to Aman (of whom many of the Noldor later returned to Middle-earth). A term for the Eldar, used in reference to the Elves who passed into the West from the Grey Havens, as well as certain related groups who remained in, or returned to, Middle-earth. These would have included Noldor who had remained in Middle-earth at the end of the First Age, as well as the Sindar who established the Havens. The 'High Kindred' is thus a relatively broad term, encompassing all the peoples of the original Three Kindreds who made the Great Journey out of Cuiviénen, whether or not they eventually made the final stage of that Journey into Aman in the West. It is therefore essentially equivalent to Eldar, a term with a similar application. For acknowledgements and references, see the Disclaimer & Bibliography page.
