Déagol

The short-lived discoverer of the One Ring

A Hobbit of Stoor-kind and a friend of Sméagol (Gollum), Déagol found the One Ring on the bed of the River Anduin while fishing. He was murdered by his friend Sméagol, who stole the Ring.

The ai here represents the sound of the Old English diphthong éa, which would be pronunced like modern English 'ai' or 'ay'.
