Cirith ThoronathThe Eagles’ CleftA narrow and treacherous pass that led through the Encircling Mountains to the north of Gondolin. A narrow path led through the pass along a dangerous ledge, with a deep chasm on its western side and a sheer cliff face to the east. It was through this pass that the Exiles of Gondolin fled from the fall of their city, but found themselves confronted by a force of Morgoth's creatures, including a Balrog. Glorfindel fought with the Balrog, and both fell into the depths and were destroyed.
