The Blessed

A title of Eärendil the Mariner, and of Aman in the West

A title given to Eärendil the Mariner, whose great voyage at the end of the First Age delivered Elves and Men from the tyranny of Morgoth. The same title was occasionally used of Aman, the Blessed Realm beyond the Great Sea that lay at the end of Eärendil's journey.

Aman The Undying Lands in the West, whose name Aman means 'Blessed Realm'. In Eärendil's time, Aman still lay within the Circles of the World, but it lay protected behind the Shadowy Seas and Enchanted Isles, and it was only through the power of a Silmaril that Eärendil was able to come there.
Eärendil The Half-elven son of Tuor and Idril and lord of the people of the Havens of Sirion, Eärendil voyaged into the West seeking the pardon and aid of the Valar. At last he found Aman, and brought the anger of the Valar down on Morgoth, so saving the last of the Elves and Edain of Beleriand from the power of the Dark Lord.
