Blade that was Broken

The broken Sword of Elendil

Narsil was an ancient blade, forged by Telchar of Nogrod in the First Age, and carried to the War of the Last Alliance by Elendil the High King. With it he fought Sauron himself, and though Sauron was defeated, the blade of Narsil was shattered in that battle that brought the Second Age to an end. The Shards of Narsil were carried back to the North-kingdom, where they were held as an heirloom by the descendants of Elendil throughout the Third Age, through to the time of his heir Aragorn. Before Aragorn set out with the Nine Walkers of the Fellowship of the Ring, the Elves of Rivendell took the shards and reforged the sword, creating a new blade that Aragorn named Andúril, the Flame of the West, which he bore with him throughout the War of the Ring.
