Apples

Trees with fragrant wood that bore the fruit of the same name. Found extensively throughout Middle-earth, they are commonly mentioned in the lands between the Shire and Bree (where they appeared in the name of the Appledore family). Evidently they also grew at least as far south as Gondor.

A half-eaten apple was put to good use by Sam Gamgee in Bree, when he used it as a missile to strike Bill Ferny. In a much earlier time, wild apples had been among the favourite trees of the Entwives, and they grew in the gardens beyond Anduin before those lands were ruined and became the Brown Lands.
