World’s End

A poetic name for the western shores of Aman, and therefore the western edge of the entire world of Arda, on the edge of the Outer Sea. The Halls of Mandos stood on this far shore, looking out over the dark sea beyond, across which it was said that the spirits of Men passed beyond the world after death.

The World's End appears in the "Song of Eärendil" composed by Bilbo Baggins in Rivendell, as the place from which Eärendil first took flight aboard his hallowed vessel Vingilot. With a Silmaril bound to his brow and shining like a star, Eärendil passed eastward across Aman and over the Mountain Wall of the Pelóri, and on over the Great Sea to soar above Middle-earth before returning into the West.
