Sunlending

A name for Anórien

Map of Sunlending

To a Rider of Rohan travelling east along the road that skirted the White Mountains, the border of his own land was marked by the Mering Stream. Crossing the stream would bring him into that part of Gondor known to its own people as Anórien, which stretched on for more than a hundred and fifty miles until the end of the Mountains and Minas Tirith itself. At the time of Gondor's founding, this had been the land of Minas Anor, the Tower of the Sun. Its name among the Rohirrim recognised this connection, and so they called it Sunlending, Land of the Sun.
