A type of low-growing plant noted for its profuse and brightly coloured flowers, and its ability to grow in habitats unsuitable for many other kinds of plant (hence the name 'rockrose', though in fact the rockrose is not a true rose, nor even closely related to that flower). Yellow rockroses were found by Bilbo and the Dwarves as they travelled through the rocky lands eastward of the Misty Mountains, growing alongside such herbs as thyme, sage and marjoram.
