A little-known family of the Shire-hobbits, particularly associated with the marshy eastern region known as the Marish, and especially with the village of Stock. The name of the family derives from 'puddle foot', and reflects the moist conditions of their part of the Shire. For the same reason, the Puddifoots are noted as preferring to live in houses, rather than the Hobbit-holes found in many of the drier regions of the Shire.
