One of the many titles given to Morgoth, the ancient Power Melkor who became the Dark Lord of Angband and warred with Elves and Men during the First Age. The title is used in the closing passages of The Silmarillion, to address the cursed legacy of the first Dark Lord. While Morgoth himself was expelled from the world at the end of the First Age, he had already spread lies and suspicion throughout the peoples of Elves and Men, and so while the world was saved from Morgoth himself, he left Terror and Hate in his wake that would re-emerge over and again across all of history to come.
